#5 1 UPMIX SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE MOVIE#Just to clarify if I have a movie with 5.1 sound (in Dolby or DTS) and it’s encoded as two stereo channels, and 3 surround and subwoofer channels are silent, upmixing and surround spatialization doesn’t do anything. Unfortunately with Atmos set on the audio settings I can’t set any spatialization mode at the deck, it only does Dsur, which doesn’t seem to do anything on any of the other channel formats unless it’s actually stereo audio. I wish it did work - unfortunately changing channels on Hulu shows that FX and Pop and a bunch of others (Smithsonian?) have ridiculously bad sound mixes that defeat anything the Yamaha receiver can do with it (even Dolby 5,1 with every surround spatialization setting, DTS with Neo:Whatever, I’ve tried them all). Neither are Atmos enabled.Ĭan anyone test this out? Or confirm this was typical behavior that I somehow missed? Gameplay has audio coming from all speakers. I'm currently testing out Batman Arkham Asylum and Outer Wilds. And those, as we know, can be hit or miss with accuracy depending on the game and which upmixer you use. I would have to disengage Atmos on the X1, drop down to 5.1 PCM, and then enable either the DSU or DTS:X upmixers. That rain came almost exclusively from my front height speakers.Īgain, unless I've lost my mind, this audio behavior did not occur in the recent past. More specifically, the intro to MGS2 has a bridge/ship scene in pouring rain. In fact, one of the more impressive examples is Metal Gear Solid 2/3 remaster, made backwards compatible for the X1. Now there is audio in those channels in non-Atmos games. That rules out accidentally selecting the upmixers + 5.1, which is what you'd typically do to get those Front Height channels working. In the past, my front height channels were silent when Atmos/PCM was enabled on the console with non-Atmos contentĪdditionally, Dolby Surround or DTS: Neural X cannot be enabled on my Yamaha AVR when Atmos is selected on the XB1. I first noticed this while streaming a football game on the ESPN app, of all things. I might be going bananas, but I'm 90% confident that Dolby Upmixing has been enabled on the console in the absence of any settings toggle.
